FK-5-1-12 Clean Agent Systems

An engineered clean-agent total-flooding system for enclosures where water or conventional suppression agents may cause unacceptable equipment damage or operational interruption. FK-5-1-12 discharges rapidly and leaves no agent residue after discharge.

System overview

A complete engineered clean-agent system.

The FK-5-1-12 clean agent system (DN5112) is an engineered total-flooding fire suppression system. Each system is individually engineered for the enclosure it protects: agent quantity, pipe network, and nozzle selection and placement are calculated for the specific hazard rather than taken from a catalog.

FK-5-1-12 is stored as a liquefied compressed gas, superpressurized with nitrogen, and discharged through a distribution pipe network and nozzles as a two-phase mixture of liquid and vapor. When discharged, FK-5-1-12 rapidly vaporizes and suppresses fire primarily through chemical interference with the combustion process, combined with heat absorption. It does not extinguish primarily by reducing the oxygen concentration in the protected space.

Because the agent is electrically non-conductive and leaves no residue after discharge, the system is suited to enclosures where water-based suppression would damage sensitive equipment or interrupt critical operations.

Key characteristics

Engineered for sensitive, continuity-critical spaces.

Electrically non-conductive
Suited to the protection of energized electronic and electrical equipment when the system is properly designed and installed.
No residue
Leaves no agent residue after discharge, reducing post-discharge cleanup associated with the suppression agent.
Rapid total flooding
Designed to discharge the required halocarbon agent quantity within 10 seconds, in accordance with the applicable NFPA 2001 requirements.
Engineered pipe & nozzle network
Agent quantity, piping, and nozzle placement are calculated for the specific enclosure.
Automatic or manual actuation
May be actuated electrically through compatible listed releasing-control equipment, manually at the container valve, or through other approved actuation arrangements defined in the system documentation.
Application-specific concentration
Designed to the applicable design concentration for the hazard, in accordance with NFPA 2001.

Occupied-space use: may be used in normally occupied spaces when the design concentration and personnel-exposure provisions comply with NFPA 2001 and the applicable system listing. This is not an unconditional statement of occupant safety; occupancy provisions are determined per design.

How the system is engineered

From hazard to controlled documentation.

Every FK-5-1-12 system is developed through a defined process by qualified system designers using controlled calculation methods and approved system documentation.

  1. Define the hazard and enclosure.
  2. Establish the design concentration and agent quantity.
  3. Select the container, pipe and nozzle arrangement.
  4. Coordinate releasing controls, alarms, shutdowns and pressure relief.
  5. Complete hydraulic calculations and controlled project documentation.
The website does not perform system calculations. Hydraulic calculation is carried out by qualified personnel using controlled methods and software; proprietary calculation methods and software are not published or offered for download.

Multiple containers with manifold
Single container
A single agent container serving the protected enclosure.
Multiple containers with manifold
Several containers connected to a common manifold and distribution network for larger protected volumes.
Reserve arrangement
A reserve agent supply where required by the project or the applicable standard.

Available container sizes and arrangements are defined by the approved system documentation. Not every container size or arrangement is approved in every jurisdiction.

Design & installation

Key considerations for a compliant installation.

FK-5-1-12 systems require qualified design and installation. Representative considerations include:

Enclosure integrity and hold time
Design concentration for the hazard
Personnel-exposure provisions
Discharge time
Nozzle selection and placement
Piping layout and limitations
Pressure-relief venting
Room shutdowns and interlocks
Detection and releasing sequence of operation
Inspection, testing, and maintenance per NFPA 2001
Applicable codes, standards, listings, and manufacturer documentation
This overview does not replace the controlled design and installation manual. System design, installation, inspection, testing, and maintenance must be performed by qualified personnel in accordance with NFPA 2001 and the requirements of the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
Approval & certification

Status is stated per configuration.

Approval & certification status

Approval and certification status varies by system configuration, container size, pressure, component, and jurisdiction. Refer to the current DueNorth certificates, listings, approval documents, and technical documentation for the specific configuration under consideration.
